Overview
Beat Bazaar is a music player that plays audio files stored on your device. Your music stays on your phone — we never upload, stream, or access your audio files, and we have no way of knowing which songs you listen to, how often you play them, or what is in your music library.
Here is a plain summary of everything the app does with data:
- On your device only — Your playlists, queue, equalizer settings, theme preferences, and song metadata (titles, artists, albums) are saved locally on your phone using MMKV storage. None of this ever leaves your device.
- Lyrics lookup — When you request lyrics, the song title and artist name are sent to LRCLIB to fetch matching lyrics. That is the only information sent — no device ID, no listening history, no personal data.
- Artist & album info — When you view an artist or album's info screen, its name/title is sent to MusicBrainz to resolve genre and release-year metadata, and may also be sent to Wikipedia/Wikidata to fetch a short description. No device ID or personal data is included.
- Music news — The app fetches a music news feed from your selected provider — Google News, a direct outlet feed (Pitchfork, Billboard, Stereogum, NME, Consequence), or a custom RSS feed you add yourself — using a search query and/or your selected app language. No personal data or identifiers are included.
- Ads — Google AdMob displays advertisements and may collect device identifiers for ad personalization. You can opt out via your device settings, or watch a rewarded ad to turn off all ads for the current session.
- Subscriptions & purchases — Beat Bazaar offers optional in-app subscriptions (monthly and annual) and a lifetime purchase, managed by RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes your purchase data (transaction receipts, subscription status, product identifiers) to manage entitlements. No payment details (credit card numbers, billing address) are collected by Beat Bazaar or RevenueCat — all payments are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store).
In short: Beat Bazaar does not track your listening habits. We do not know what songs are on your device, what you play, or when you play it. Your music is entirely private.
Data We Collect
Data stored locally on your device
The following data is stored exclusively on your device using local storage (MMKV) and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Music library metadata (song titles, artists, albums, genres, duration)
- Playlists you create
- Playback queue and playback state (current track, position, shuffle/repeat mode)
- Equalizer settings
- Theme and display preferences
- Ad preferences for the current session
- Subscription status and entitlements
Data sent to external services
Certain features require network requests to third-party services. No personal data or device identifiers are included in these requests:
- Lyrics lookup - When you request lyrics for a song, the artist name and track title are sent to LRCLIB to retrieve matching lyrics. No other data is transmitted.
- Artist & album metadata - When you open an artist or album's info screen, the artist name and/or album title you're viewing is sent to MusicBrainz to resolve a canonical identifier and enrich genre/release-year data. To fetch a short description, the resolved title may also be sent to Wikipedia and Wikidata. No device identifiers or other personal data are included. - Music news feed - The app fetches a music news feed from your selected provider: Google News, or a direct RSS/Atom feed from an outlet such as Pitchfork, Billboard, Stereogum, NME, or Consequence — or a custom feed URL you add yourself. A search query (for Google News) and/or your selected app language are sent to retrieve results. The app displays article headlines, publication dates, and source names exactly as provided by the feed, along with the original links to the source publications. Tapping a news item opens the original source URL in your browser. Beat Bazaar does not modify, cache, or redistribute this content. Requests to built-in providers are subject to each outlet's own privacy policy (e.g. Google's Privacy Policy for Google News); custom feeds are subject to the privacy policy of whichever server you point them at.
- Subscription management - When you subscribe or make a purchase, RevenueCat receives transaction data (purchase receipts, subscription status, product identifiers) from the App Store or Play Store to verify and manage your entitlements. RevenueCat may also receive an anonymous app user ID. No payment credentials are shared with RevenueCat. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Device settings read by the app
- Device locale - The app reads your device language setting to determine the default display language. This value is never transmitted externally. You can override the language in app settings.
Advertising
Beat Bazaar displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. In connection with advertising:
- Google AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
- On iOS, the app requests your consent via the App Tracking Transparency framework before using your device identifier (IDFA) for personalized ads.
- On Android, the app uses the advertising ID (AD_ID) for ad personalization.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings at any time.
- You may watch a rewarded ad to disable all ads for the current app session.
Data collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK
The Google Mobile Ads SDK embedded in Beat Bazaar automatically collects the following data for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention purposes:
- IP address — used to estimate general device location.
- Device and account identifiers — advertising ID (Android AD_ID or iOS IDFA), app set ID, and related identifiers.
- User product interactions — app launch, taps, and video views within ads.
- Diagnostic information — app launch time, hang rate, energy usage, and crash logs.
- Advertising data — advertisements you have seen, used to measure ad performance.
All data collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS. Google may use cookies or similar tracking technologies to serve and measure ads.
Permissions
Beat Bazaar requests the following permissions to function properly:
- Audio file access - To read and play music files from your device.
- Background audio - To continue playback when the app is in the background or the screen is locked.
- Wake lock (Android) - To keep the device awake during audio playback.
- Tracking transparency (iOS) - To request your consent before tracking for ad personalization.
Third-Party Services
The app integrates the following third-party services:
- Google AdMob - For displaying advertisements. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Music news providers - For fetching music-related news articles. Depending on your selected provider, requests go to Google News, a direct outlet feed (Pitchfork, Billboard, Stereogum, NME, Consequence), or a custom RSS feed URL you add. The app displays headlines, source names, and original links as provided by the feed. Google News requests are subject to Google's Privacy Policy; other feeds are subject to their own publisher's policy.
- MusicBrainz - For resolving canonical artist/album identifiers and enriching genre/release-year metadata. Only the artist name and/or album title you're viewing is sent. Subject to MetaBrainz's Privacy Policy.
- Wikipedia / Wikidata - For fetching a short artist/album description shown on info screens. Subject to Wikimedia's Privacy Policy.
- LRCLIB - For fetching song lyrics. Only artist name and track title are sent. See lrclib.net.
- RevenueCat - For managing in-app subscriptions (monthly, annual) and lifetime purchases. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts, subscription status, and anonymous user IDs to manage entitlements. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Expo / React Native - Application framework. No user data is shared with Expo.
Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal data under the following legal bases:
- Consent — For personalized advertising and tracking (e.g., iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt). You may withdraw consent at any time through your device settings.
- Legitimate interest — For displaying contextual (non-personalized) ads, fraud prevention, and SDK diagnostics that help maintain app stability.
- Contract performance — For processing data necessary to provide the app's core functionality (e.g., fetching lyrics you request, resolving artist/album metadata via MusicBrainz and Wikipedia, managing your subscription entitlements via RevenueCat).
International Data Transfers
Google AdMob and RevenueCat may transfer data collected through their SDKs to servers located in the United States or other countries. These transfers are governed by each provider's data processing terms and applicable safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses for EEA users). MusicBrainz (operated by the MetaBrainz Foundation) and Wikipedia/Wikidata (operated by the Wikimedia Foundation) may similarly process metadata lookup requests on servers outside your country. Beat Bazaar itself does not operate any external servers and does not transfer your local app data internationally.
Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
When Google AdMob serves personalized ads, device identifiers and interaction data may be shared with Google's advertising partners. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), this may constitute "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out of this at any time — see "Your Rights" below.
Children's Privacy
Beat Bazaar is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
Data Security
All app data (playlists, settings, queue) is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's own security (passcode, biometrics, encryption). No app data is transmitted to any server we operate. Data collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS.
Data Retention
All locally stored data (library, playlists, settings, subscription status) remains on your device until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. We do not retain any data on external servers. For data collected by Google AdMob, retention periods are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. For data processed by RevenueCat, retention is governed by RevenueCat's Privacy Policy. For metadata lookups sent to MusicBrainz and Wikipedia/Wikidata, retention is governed by the MetaBrainz and Wikimedia privacy policies; Beat Bazaar does not retain this data.
Your Rights
All users
- Opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings at any time.
- Deny or revoke tracking permission on iOS (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking).
- Reset your advertising identifier on Android (Settings > Privacy > Ads) or iOS.
- Delete all local app data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. Because Beat Bazaar does not store your data on any server, uninstalling the app permanently removes all data.
- Watch a rewarded ad to disable all advertisements for the current app session.
European Economic Area, UK & Switzerland (GDPR)
You additionally have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we process about you.
- Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data.
- Restriction — Request that we limit how we use your data.
- Portability — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.
- Lodge a complaint — File a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
You additionally have the right to:
- Know — Request the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected about you.
- Delete — Request deletion of your personal information.
- Opt out of sharing — Direct us to stop sharing your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can do this by disabling ad personalization in your device settings.
- Non-discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
